Today I tested the rear fuel tank, looking for leaks (I have found one), also for integrity and finally, checking the fuel flow at the emergency dumping valve.

I loaded it with 200 liters (kilograms) of water and recorded the time it took to dump 100 liters. It was just a matter of 70 seconds, so I am quite satisfied.

You can see on the video how fast the water level is lowering. Also the design and craftsmanship  of the dump valve proved to be good and once the valve is closed, no leakage is observed. The seal is fire proof, so no flame return at an emergency landing should enter the fuel tank (all the belly would be fuel wetted, if dumping is done right after take off). Finally it is not necessary to install a fire extinguisher at the valve.

Next time, I will fix the leakage and install the side panel to complete the fuel tank.

Hoy he probado el depósito trasero, comprobando si tiene pérdidas (encontré una), su integridad y el flujo de combustible a través de la válvula de drenaje de emergencia.

Metí 200 litros de agua (200 kilogramos) y comprobé el tiempo que tardaba en drenar 100 litros. Tan sólo tardó 70 segundos, todo un satisfactorio logro.

Si os fijáis en el vídeo, podeis ver lo rápido que baja el nivel. El diseño y construcción de la válvula han sido acertados y una vez la válvula cerrada, no gotea. El asiento impediría cualquier retorno de llama, caso de un aterrizaje de emergencia, con la panza del avión empapada de combustible. Ya no es necesario instalar un extintor en la boca de salida del depósito.

La próxima vez, arreglaré la pequeña fuga y montaré el panel lateral del depósito para darlo por terminado.
