Going North

Going North

Tomorrow I will start going North again. It is not a direct one, but a step one.

More or less, at 60 W longitude, I will be crossing the Equator and that point will be the reference for the International Aeronautical Federation to open the mandatory 120 degrees over the equator for the flight to be considered, if I get it, a round the world over the poles flight.

But it is not as easy it might look. Now I am concerned about the huge mountains I will face. Flying at 13000 or 15000 ft without oxygen and without much engine power available, is not something that I like.

I hope to have no winds when crowding the mountains: downdrafts can be severe and overcome the airplane capacity.

Venezuela is still not providing the clearance. It looks like they will do, buuuuut, not yet.

Flying over Angel´s Fall is one of my dreams. And I hope to get it.

Problem is the situation of the country. Besides, the fighter pilots have strong fingers on a light gun trigger. Some Brasil pilots have told me about. Many aircrafts have been shot down!

That is the reason why I want a clearance: I do know that Venezuela is not buoyant on money, so I have decided to help and avoid them to expend money in ammunition.

True is that if they still want, they will have to fight it. I have nothing against a fighter, but I am not ready to easy the task, and besides, I have an RV8 !!!!

Angel´s Fall jumps from a very tall tepui. Also altitudes are high there and I will be heavier. The flight from Boavista into Medellin is close to 1100 nm. When at Andes mountains, I will be light , but before of that, not.Screen Shot 2016-03-07 at 13.33.36

As you see, preparing this flight require a lot of thinking!

veeery interesting, I was just flying with the mouse over that Tepui in Google Earth, but it is less than 8000 feet. So, you can visit the hikers up there and rock your wings….

Buena suerte y cielos azules.
Pero a ver si haces un buen relato bien detallado para los que estamos ansiosos por seguir tus vuelos.
